Aspiration of tracheobronchial secretions is the necessary process of aspiration of increased sputum or in many cases food, which are concentrated in the area of the trachea and pharynx. The special catheter enters either through the mouth, or through the nasal cavity, or in the case of a tracheostomy, through the entrance of the tracheostomy.
Patients with levin more often show the need for aspiration of tracheobronchial secretions due to relaxation of the esophageal sphincter resulting in gastroesophageal reflux.

The purpose of suction is to remove secretions and any food residues. Most of the time it is more effective after using a nebulizer.
Sputum Culture

The longer the sputum remains in the trachea, the more chances the patient has for a respiratory infection. The sooner we do the aspiration and take the sputum culture, the more we help the patient to avoid it.
In combination with the appropriate regimen of antibiotics and oxygen therapy recommended by the Pulmonologist, the frequency of aspiration will probably decrease.
In case of an already identified respiratory infection, more than one suction may be needed throughout the day.
