Indications of Bedsores
Contact us when the following signs of bedsores are present as soon as
possible to advise you on the treatment you should follow:
- intense redness in the area of skin in contact with the mattress
- if fluid discharge and strong odor are observed in patients wearing diapers
- skin continuity solution
- tissue necrosis (black skin)
Bedsore Stages:
Bedsores are divided into 4 stages:
Stage 1: Redness on intact skin. Skin discoloration, warmth, swelling, and induration can be used as indicators especially in dark-skinned individuals.
Stage 2: Partial skin loss involving the epidermis, dermis, or both. The ulcer is superficial and clinically appears as a scratch or pustule.
Stage 3: Full loss of skin, which includes destruction or necrosis of underlying tissues, without cavitation.
Stage 4: Extensive skin destruction, tissue necrosis or muscle and bone destruction, cavernous formation.
